Allergy symptoms can make daily life uncomfortable, and sometimes it’s difficult to determine the exact cause of indoor allergies. SimpleLab’s surface dust allergen testing kits are designed to help identify allergens like dust mites, pet dander, pollen, and even pest allergens with ease and assurance.

You’ll learn:

What Are Allergen Test Kits?

SimpleLab’s allergen testing kits are designed to help you find out what allergens—or the specific substances that trigger allergic reactions—are present in the dust on your surfaces, including couches, carpets, beds, and more.

These kits detect common indoor triggers, including cat and dog dander, dust mites, cockroach allergen, rodent allergen, pollen, and others.

How Do These Tests Work?

SimpleLab’s allergen tests allow you to collect dust samples yourself and mail them to a certified laboratory to run the analysis. Each kit includes a dust collection device that connects to any standard vacuum hose, plus clear instructions.

To collect your sample, you vacuum surfaces where dust tends to gather, such as mattresses, carpets, or upholstered furniture.

After collecting your sample:

  1. Drop it off using the prepaid label, and we’ll ensure it reaches the most suitable certified lab in our network.
  2. Our accredited labs analyze your sample using the appropriate method(s) for precision and reliability.
  3. Your results are delivered digitally where you can access them through our online dashboard. Our reports are clear and easy to understand.

Note: You require a vacuum to correctly perform this test.

When Should You Test?

You should consider allergen dust testing if:

  • You or someone around you has persistent allergy or asthma symptoms
  • You have pets, or moved into a location where animals were present, and you are concerned about dander
  • There is visible dust buildup on surfaces, bedding, or upholstery
  • You notice increased allergy symptoms after cleaning, moving furniture, or vacuuming
  • There’s a known pest problem (rodents or cockroaches)
  • You just completed a major cleaning or renovation and want to check if allergens remain

Addressing these scenarios with testing gives you clearer insight into your home’s allergen levels and supports a healthier living space.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use these kits if pets or visible pests aren’t an issue?

Yes. Many allergens are invisible, and previous tenants or neighbors may have had pets or pest issues. Testing gives you a true picture of what’s in your environment.

How often should I repeat dust allergen testing?

Repeat dust allergen testing after major home changes—like renovations, deep cleaning, pest control, or water damage—or if allergy symptoms worsen. Testing during different seasons can help you identify seasonal allergens.

How long does it take to get results?

SimpleLab allergen tests provide digital results within 10 business days after your sample arrives at the lab.
